One step closer to the full ‘Dex

VerroakArtAvatarI have a certain respect for the mo’arg. The engineer dudes, not the beefy mooks. They’re smart, they’re dangerous and their appearance incites terror. When you see a mo’arg going at you, you know you’re in trouble. Sure, they’re going a little extreme with the whole “replacing body parts with machines” thing, but everyone has got their own little obsession. I must admit, mine is probably collecting. Not pixelated monsters in a tiny hand-held device, not cards or teddy bears – collecting people. The more varied and stranger their races, the better. Just seeing all kinds of creatures working together fills a certain, warped sense of collectorship in my mind. And I always wanted to have one of these – the mo’arg. I worked with, and fought, Sal’salabim so I know what they’re capable of. But only recently I got the chance to get one of them in my employ.

The Un-meeting

IzzikShienor-100I’m not on the research staff, so most of the days I have a fair share of free time when I’m done producing potions and overseeing the gnolls and the broken draenei in my production room. Then I go out and try to chat up a few people in our “village” and realize how busy or tired most of them are. Yesterday evening when I was done with work, I went to look for Orkan and found him in Verroak’s room, working on some solution they were preparing together. He had no time for me, so I thought I’d check some other important people around here. I checked Theramas first, and he was still in his lab. He never seems to tire. I know what he is in reality, but it still seems strange. For two days straight he’s been in his lab, working on spells to treat his mental patients. And he wasn’t the only researcher busy with work either. Zovaar was working on those enchanted information disks, and he even got Podric to help him. I kept wandering around until I found the boss in the security quarters – or mission control, as he started calling it recently.

Mesonyx Attacks!

VerroakArtAvatarIn most places, if you talked about inhabitants of Mesonyx, the fourth planet from our sun, people wouldn’t treat you very seriously. This isn’t most places. We’ve been sending people to a parallel past Draenor and taking ingredients from there. We have fought an invasion of Infinite Dragonflight. We finally opened a rift to a completely alien planet, met space gnomes, killed an evil undead alien god, and we regularly trade with two distant worlds. We have employees from other planets – and not just the common Draenor, but we have a darfellan and a shivarra. So naturally, an alien from Mesonyx doesn’t raise too many eyebrows. It does however answer some questions and doubts Azerothians had about the world. For example, the canals must be real and there are actually native races up there. Or rather down there, considering what we’ve learned. Anyway, let’s explain this in a proper order.

Of walking tumors and oddball lizards

VerroakArtAvatarPeople sometimes throw nicknames around all willy-nilly. I’m not one of those people usually. I’ll just call people by their name, if I remember it, or more likely by “hey, you gnome”. Well, either way I don’t do what some people do. I don’t call a shaman “Sparkles” just because he’s shown some shock spells around me, nor do I call them “Waldo” just because they have an extremely unfashionable sweater in red-white stripes. But sometimes, a nickname is so fitting I will repeat it. Take Ughul, a sick-looking saurok also known as “the Cancer”. Not only saying Ughul is extremely weird when you have a beak, calling him the Cancer really fits. I mean, look at the guy. He’s got this… ugly, cancerous looking thing on his chin and neck, and some kind of growths all over his body. And for a while, I thought that was enough to call him that. Until I saw something even more fitting for that name.

The Island Expansion

VerroakArtAvatarWhat? No, we’re not talking about Azshara attacking the Alliance and Horde and beginning an expansion into the South Seas, although I did hear a troubling amount of people wishing that would happen. No, it’s about my little syndicate finally expanding into “the Island” – that quaint, little, dark island we found on the South Seas, far from the prying eyes of the authorities. When I got enough gold from the new raiding season starting up, I contacted my usual construction company and started work on the Island. I actually hired quite a few new employees to man the new stations – a bunch of new porters, and I’m still hiring research specialists. One of my new employees was my old “friend”, Balerok. It came to me as a surprise, as I’ve seen him throw his lot with Wrathion before.

Tower of Krasha is recruiting

You may or may not have noticed our semi-regular RP sessions, where we continue our plots and play out the continued events of my design. If you did not notice, every once in a while, although shooting for not more rarely than once per week, we gather at 8 PM CEST and take our characters into various worlds out in the Twisting Nether that I invented – worlds that are still clearly part of the Warcraft setting, although these worlds are not Azeroth, nor did they have any contact with it. While still remaining within the setting, they give us a fresh perspective on it. In those sessions, we continue established plots and let me assure you, every hanging plot thread is going to be resolved, time allowing. The other thing that we’re missing, other than time, is people.

Why did it have to be smoke monsters?

VerroakArtAvatarI’m always reluctant to give credit to people, especially Lunk, but when they deserve it, I do it (and then complain about it). So as you might or might not know I was looking for a while for a way to expand my facilities. Namely, I wanted to build a new research facility – one far away from the prying eyes of Alliance and Horde, one that could research whatever I wanted without oversight from anyone. Two ideas crossed my mind, an island somewhere in the Great Sea, or some abandoned world out there in the Nether. While I was still waiting for the adventurers to go to Draenor to boost my sales, Lunk stumbled upon an island not far away from the Darkmoon Island. An unpopulated, isolated, dark island – the perfect place for me and my future research facility.
