Arakkoa_showcaseSince the ancient times, the arakkoa race has soared through the skies above Draenor. However, they have fallen far since those times. They were cursed by the blood of Sethe to be wingless, crooked beings that yearned for their lost past glory. When the Old God N’Zoth contacted their remaining leaders and recruited them and their corrupted god Anzu to join him, they jumped at the opportunity. But not all of them fell deeper into the forbidden magic – there is a movement brewing among the Skettis Exiles, seeking to leave the shadows of corruption and to go back into the Light.

History of the arakkoa people begins tens of thousands of years ago. In that ancient era, there were three primal gods on the world of Draenor: Rukhmar, Anzu and Sethe. All of them represented different, conflicting ideals but Rukhmar and Anzu struck an Alliance against Sethe. In the ensuing battle, Sethe was slain and Anzu was cursed with his blood, being unable to fly anymore. In memory of Anzu’s ferocity and her own grace, Rukhmar created the arakkoa race. Soon, a golden age of prosperity and knowledge ensued for the arakkoa and this civilization was known as the Apexis.

Unfortunately, that golden age couldn’t last forever. In their last years, the Apexis built a great Sky City and all their elites moved to that flying construction. Scheming from atop their flying citadel, the Apexis began constructing a weapon that would wipe out the ogres threatening their dominance. Although the High Council refused to use that horrifying weapon, its architect lost his mind and attacked the Sky City itself, wiping out the arakkoa elites. The only people who remained were savages and religious zealots who saw the fall of the Apexis as divine punishment from Rukhmar for abandoning her. These savages created a new movement – Sun-Sages of Rukhmar – and were led by a line of Talon Kings.

Spires-bgThousands of years later came the time of the greatest and last Talon King, Terokk. His feats are spoken of only in legends and because of these fabulous feats, some considered him an incarnation of Rukhmar herself. However, the Sun-Sages were not happy with this cult following of their king and betrayed him and all his most faithful followers. They were cast out from Skyreach and plunged into the Pools of Sethe below, cursing them forever with their new, mangled forms. While the Sun-Sages continued to rule Skyreach and plot total domination of their people, Terokk’s new people, the cursed arakkoa outcasts, embraced him as their demigod and leader, inferior only to the broken god Anzu. When the curse began to take its toil on Terokk’s mind, his Talonpriests cast him into the shadows, until such time when he can be purified. In our timeline, such time never came and the immortal king had to be destroyed.

The arakkoa continued to live in the shadows until very recently. They survived genocidal campaigns of the Old Horde and gathered their remaining leaders in Skettis, Terokk’s old capital. There, they withstood years of assault by the Sha’tari forces until Terokk himself returned, bringing the word of Anzu’s new master – the Old God N’Zoth. Terokk promised his people salvation in a new dimension and led his people into another exodus – this time to Azeroth’s Emerald Dream. The land affected by their presence twisted into a resemblance of Terokkar Forest and Arak. In this land, the arakkoa sought their salvation but found only nightmares and more evil gods seeking to abuse them. It was only the noble sacrifice of Kirrik the Awakened that showed them the Light and brought them out of hiding to join the Alliance under the guidance of Rilak the Redeemed.

Skettis & Ravenwood
Retreating into their ancient capital of Skettis, the arakkoa withstood outsider assaults for a very long time. Only recently, their Talon King, Terokk, returned with the proper alignment of stars and invited his people to Azeroth’s Emerald Dream to serve N’Zoth. The land there shifted to suit the people and became Ravenwood – a place haunted with Azeroth’s nightmares as well as arakkoa’s own past.

Home City: Twilight Grove
Once their exodus out of Emerald Dream was complete, the arakkoa people took residence in the grove surrounding their exit. Here, in the Twilight Grove, arakkoa tree houses sprung up, hosting their leaders and their trainers. Now, Rilak the Redeemed fiercely guards the entrance to the Emerald Dream, hoping no one will repeat their mistakes.

Racial Mount: Warp Stalker
The relationship between arakkoa and warp stalkers was always strained. These vicious, stealthy predators were only rivaled by cats when it comes to dangers posed to young arakkoa lost in the woods. However in later years the beasts arakkoa usually used as mounts were going extinct and necessity forced them to adopt to new mounts. This way, the arakkoa adopted the only animal on Draenor equally alien and dangerous as themselves – the warp stalkers.

Racial Leader: Rilak the Redeemed
Once a dangerous zealot who slew anyone who refused to obey the law of his gods, he was met in the forests of Terokkar by Kirrik the Awakened, a Talonpriest blessed with visions of the Light by the Naaru A’dal. Kirrik refused to fight Rilak and shared his visions with him. Overwhelmed with the new hope for the future of his people, Rilak abandoned his corrupt ways and joined Kirrik, taking on the monicker of “Redeemed”. In the wake of Kirrik’s noble sacrifice, Rilak took over as the leader of his people and will do anything to prevent them from falling into the same dark path.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Arakkoa Racial Traits

Although the cursed arakkoa are no longer able to fly, their cloak of feathers grants them the ability to slow their fall for a short time.

Even though the arakkoa were under Old Gods’ power for a short time, it left a permanent mark, letting them occasionally slip into their language for a short time.

Arakkoa hide ancient secrets of alchemy, passed down for generations. It grants them a passive bonus to their alchemy skill.

Arakkoa are passionate about seeking and hoarding all kinds of secrets. This allows them to complete archaeology artifacts with less fragments.

ability_druid_flightformBORN FOR THE SKIES
Although they no longer fly, arakkoa retain a natural affinity for flight, increasing their mounted flight speed slightly.
