This is Kirrik the Awakened writing. I asked your friend Verroak for a permission to use his account to send an important message on behalf of the Skettis Exiles.
Lately, I’ve heard that Verroak is misrepresenting us on public communication. Don’t get me wrong – the image the Archdruid fostered on his public accounts is very apt for an average Arakkoa. However what bears mentioning is that Skettis Exiles are not average Arakkoa. Our faction has split from Skettis to escape the abusive and destructive culture of our kin.
I owe you some backstory. The culture of our people, as commonly seen in the forests of what remains of our old homeworld, has been largely forged by an individual known as Terokk. Revered as god-hero by our brethren, Terokk was an evil, manipulative monster. His soul was so dark that not even our ancient dark masters could withstand him. He found Rukhmar in a Titanic tower and ripped his power to further his own goals. He denied not only centuries of our enlightened heritage, he denied his own god as well. He rewrote entire mythologies to suit himself and his followers.
The culture Terokk created was depraved and abusive. It glorified violence, xenophobia, deception, puritanism – vile sins that became a plague on our people since his ascension. Terokk claimed ends justify the means. That our race is the most important in the entire universe and everyone else either doesn’t deserve to live, or should serve us as slaves. He proclaimed the material world is a lie – that everything is a lie, and only disbelief in everything can free us. He proclaimed the body as a sinful “prison of the soul”, and the emotions that body produces should be shunned.
His crimes have scarred our people forever. An average Arakkoa became a distrustful violent cannibal. He denied his own beauty and emotions to pursue some “enlightment”, apparently awaiting us from Rukhmar, or rather Terokk himself. We became embroiled in paranoia, fear and lies. We became cold and detached. We became shadows of ourselves. That is what destroyed us. Not orcs – our distrust of each other, and of other races.
In my visions, I saw what would have happened without Terokk. I saw our people standing strong among the forests of Draenor. I saw one of our men warning the Draenei of the incoming slaughter. I saw the Arakkoa and the Draenei standing together against the Horde, and destroying it in its crib. Both of our peoples survived. The orcs were purged of Legion’s taint. Ner’zhul never became the Lich King, and thus there was no Scourge.
Now you know the extent of Terokk’s crimes. He was the one who made us into monsters. He was the one who closed one of the thousand ways both our worlds could have been spared countless deaths. But it is no more. He lies slain yet again, and my visions from the sainted A’dal, Light protect his blessed soul, showed me the true way for the Arakkoa race.
Don’t get hard on Verroak because of this letter. He is an old bird, raised in the old ways. He has seen the Light with us, and he knows what he ought to do. With all the talk of inhumane experiments he enacts or other ways he supposedly murders innocent people, he merely postures to look more like a traditional “proud” Arakkoa. He has a heart of gold, and he risked his life many times to protect me, Rilak, and the rest of our people. He is a good person at heart. Even if he can’t change some of his ways – still remaining a self-hating puritan – he wishes well.
Show him your support, and you show us all your support. If all of our people are to stand against the Burning Legion, we must unite. We must cast downs the chains of our pride and our old hatreds. We must all learn to live in peace, truth and love of all of creation.
Light be with You All,
Kirrik the Awakened
